The first directional portable gas radiant patio heater is more useful than a conventional portable propane patio heater in the following scenarios:

One table is being heated by one heater - the heat is directed to the table instead of in all directions (including where nobody is sitting)
OR
It will be placed at the edge of a deck or patio - the heat is directed to the patio instead of in all directions (including off the deck or patio)
